The rooftop drinking and dining craze that has swept Manhattan and many other hip locales across the country in the past year has only just landed in Hawaii. In Lahaina, locals are raving about the Lahaina Store Grill, which opened in December 2005. It's menu looks pretty good -- some interesting takes on Pacific Rim fusion cooking.

The oyster bar is a welcome addition to the islands. There aren't any oyster bars in Hawaii that I know of, in part because the locall oysters are endangered (and therefore not for picking, thank you). Regardless, the kicker is the rooftop deck. It's a beaut with a 180-degree view overlooking the electric blue waters that lap against this former whaling town. I'd say it trumps Kimo's as the best seat in Lahaina for sunset dining. Lunch, however, might be too hot (the Hawaiian meaning of Lahaina is "burning torch").
