Long before Coke and Pepsi dominated the soft drink landscapes, dozens of local sodaworks served up cold, lovely sweet libations all over the Hawaiian islands. On the North Shore of Oahu, Waialua Sodaworks made cola that quenched the thirst of workers on the sugarcane fields of Oahu's idyllic North Shore with strawberry, sasparilla and orange libations as one of the hundreds of mom-and-pop soda companies around the island. The company shut down after Coke and Pepsi took over the soft drink market in the 1930s and 40s. In 2003, newlyweds Jason and Karen Campbell revived the name and concept with indigenous flavors such as pineapple and, mango. Today it's the only soda bottled in Hawaii besides the aforementioned megabrands. Next up from the Campbells -- a cream soda made with Maui sugar and vanilla beans and honey from the Big Island. These drinks are available only in Hawaii and only in a handful of stores and restaurants so grab it when you see it.
