More Music Festivals in Diamond Head Crater

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, Jimi Hendrix and other top acts rocked out in Diamond Head Crater, the iconic extinct volcano located just east of Waikiki. A natural amphitheatre with fine acoustics, the crater rivaled Red Rocks, the Shoreline and other classic outdoor venues. The crater fell silent through the 1980s and 1990s but came to life again in the winter of 2006 when aging rockers Steve Miller Band and Linda Ronstadt played an all-day fest. Now it looks like music at the crater, thankfully, will turn up the volume even more with two festivals slated for 2007 and 2008 and the powers that be pushing for more concerts that appeal to both locals and visitors. Well, its hardly Coachella or even Lollapallooza but good to see Leahi (the Hawaiian name for Diamond Head) back onstage.
