We got back a week ago from a quick getaway to Maui, my first overnite with my three year-old son sans mommy. Our trip mostly covered Paia, the windsufing capital of the universe and a wonderful old plantation town full of oddballs on Maui's windswept, sunsoakd North Shore. We didn't see Willie Nelson at Charley's (though we dumped half a bean burritto under our table) or Laird Hamilton at Anthony's but Paia is awesome mostly because of what it's not: not expensive, not crowded, and not overly polished like much of the rest of Maui. Not that we dislike overly polished. Put me in the Ritz and feed me at David Paul's and I'm a happy surf dude. Over the next week, I'll be delivering a Paia / Maui Journal that will take you along for the (sometimes bumpy) ride. Stay tuned!
