Long after the other classic Hawaii bars turned off their taps and put away their blenders, the La Mariana Yacht Club has served as the louche outpost for tiki culture mavens and those craving a sense of old Hawaii. In fact, proprietress Annette Nahinu bought up tiki furnishings from Don the Beachcombers and other old-school tiki bars as they closed in the 1970s and 1980s. Nahinu turns 92 this month and decided it was time to sell her outpost (Hat Tip: Honolulu Advertiser), an idyllic bar and a yacht club on Keehi Lagoon by the Airport, far from the tourist hordes. I'd highly reccomend that anyone coming to visit Hawaii and landing in Honolulu stop off there immediately after arrival or immediately before departure to get a taste of the dissappearing tiki culture. The drinks are stiff, too. The food is...well. The drinks are good. Any mainland millionaires who want one of the last great bars on Earth, make an offer. At least you'll get some really cool high-backed tiki chairs as part of the deal.
