The results of the 2006 Aloha Festival's Poke Contest were posted sometime a week or two ago and I was remiss in not getting them up. Readers of this blog know that I am a huge fan of poke. For the uninitiated, poke is a the most delicious thing on Earth, a Hawaiian-style ceviche with raw or cooked fish marinated in Asian and Hawaiian spices and sauces. The four recipes posted have some ingredients that might be hard to find outside of the islands (kukui nuts, anyone?). But they all look incredibly onolicious. Here is the grand award winner. The contest winner page also has links to some of past winners which might be more user-friendly for those outside the islands. For the one listed below, the recipe creator actually gathers all the ingredients himself by hand, whic must imbue the stuff with some mystical Molokai goodness. I'm going to do a link-out to definitions of all the Hawaiian ingredients below, as its pretty much unreadable to non-locals in present form.
