When Honolulu Advertiser staff writer (and former Cherry Blossom Beauty Queen), Catherine Toth started her blog for the paper a few months ago, I anticipated gossipy pop-culture Oprah Winfrey pap. Toth writes great stories on surfing and food. Her columns in the past have tended to wander off into navel inspection. I reread her blog today and was extremely impressed. A lot about surfing (bonus points -- I surf when I can), restaurants, hiking trails -- in short, all sorts of info useful to both locals and visitors alike. I was not aware of the Koko Crater Trail she pointed out and photo blogged. Toth is doing a LOT of photo blogging in this blog so its becoming a good resource for East Honolulu casual eateries. At any rate, I'd definitely reccomend reading through her blog from time to time. Skip the advice column stuff and read her Honolulu slice of live impressions. It's really fun and you'll learn a lot.
