Here's a graphic from Kayak.com tracking airfares from San Francisco to Honolulu over the past few months.

As you can see, all this talk of higher airfares across the country seems to be a bit overdone, at least with regard to Hawaii. The airfare peak you see in September was for a number of events (Iron Man Triatholon on the Big Island). I suspect tracking other West Coast fares to Hawaii would show you the same. The moral of this story? Travel to Hawaii off season. It's MUCH MUCH cheaper in October and November pre-holiday season.

So what accounted for the spike during the first week in November? - other than the fact that we were in Kauai Nov. 1st - 8th, with one night in O’ahu on the way home!! And we booked the fare in July … interesting!

Hi,

Have you tried Trabber.com to find the best deals? Trabber is a new search engine that aggregate air fares from different sites. Here is the address: http://www.trabber.com

Elspeth, I don’t know specifically what accounted for that spike. It could have been a major sports event — those often push up rates for a bit. Dan, have not tried Trabber. I will give it a whirl. It looks like SideStep but with more feeds searched,no?
