Hawaii Hotels: Avoid Renovation Gotcha
Where: Maui || Grouped in: Maui Hotels || Tagged:
More than once I've bagged a hotel steal online and arrived at the property to check in -- and realized that extensive, noisy and dirty renovations were underway. Hotels go out of their way to minimize these events, booking rooms throughout the process, often with little or no discount. On their Websites, which is increasingly how travelers book rooms today, the hotels either paper over the extent of the renovations or fail to give you information on what parts of the hotel are least impacted. Hawaiirama is going to start keeping close tabs on Hawaii renovations, updated as often as possible, and keep y'all posted on what pitfalls await -- and what bargains, too. Here goes.
Lanai
- Four Seasons Lodge & Koele: New Spa and Wellness Center, Construction through 2008
Oahu
- Sheraton Waikiki: Redoing Rooms below the 12th Floor, old rooms very tired
Maui
- Marriott Wailiea: Complete Renovations, resort was tired but should be much improved but check on construction status
- Royal Lahaina Resort: Property will be undergoing renovations through December 2006, work is conducted Monday - Friday 7AM-5PM. Older rooms are pretty tired. Ask for a renovated one
- Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort: From June 7, 2005 through May 31, 2007, the resort will be undergoing an expansion project. Construction will be done on two new buildings and on The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas North
Big Island
- Marriott Waikoloa: Major construction project, expansion underway
Kauai
- Grand Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort: Hyatt Regency Kauai: Pool Resurfacing, some pool closures, through November 23
There are certainly others I've missed and the list will get more extensive with time.
