It seems as if Mother Nature has a conspiracy against Hawaii tourists. Within the past year, Oahu and Kauai suffered massive sewage spills resulting from 40 days of torrential rains, an earthquake caused closures of national parks, beaches and trails on Maui and the Big Island, and a dam burst on Kauai killed 9 people. Now, after the quake, we have more action. On November 1, a landslide closed the Pali Tunnel that links the Windward side of Oahu with Honolulu proper and torrential rains caused the State Department of Health to issue warnings against going in the ocean due to potentially elevated levels of bacterial contamination.
