Hawi is hard not to like. It's an old plantation town, an end of the road kind of place that few tourists visit full of colorful locals and Mainland dropouts who fell in love with the windswept vistas high in the Kohala Mountains. Persimmon is my favorite place to browse in Hawi.

My wife is total paper hound and the store'sselection of cards, invitations and stationery is among the most intriguing in Hawaii, with many small boutique letter press shops represented. They carry some underground hip labels like Indie by Gaucho jeans and Hable Construction bags. I never quite know what I'll see there, which is part of the fun, particularly in such a pretty, little store. Persimmon will open a new location in Waikoloa. I assume they have done quite well pitching prime producs to the well-heeled ladies of Waimea area, which is stealthily trendy and upscale. We'll keep you posted.
