YouTube Video of the Day: Merrie Monarch Hula

The Merrie Monarch Festival is the Superbowl of hula competitions and its serious business in Hawaii. Halau practice for years to prepare for a trip to Hilo and the precision and grace of the top acts is truly breathtaking. We mostly watch it on TV because Hilo is a zoo during the competition and the venue is perhaps one of the least comfortable in the state. Here's a nice video clip from the fest that shows you the real hula stuff -- not just the glossy, wussy hotelified version.
