This is the first installment in a semi-random series of notes on where Barack Obama (or Barry as he was known out here) hangs/hung out in the island. We'll start with the most obvious -- a recent picture of Obama frolicking in the surf at an unnamed beach. Well, that beach sure looked like Kailua Beach Park to me. This is an excellent, positively presidential beach. It's really long, has really fine sand, and is quite democratic in that there's plenty of space for all. For civil libertarian and surf punks, there's a lovely mix of flouting the rules (letting dogs run off leash) and rigid hierarchy (kiteboarders stick to their zones of they get clobbered). While you're in Kailua, stop for a meal at Lucy's. Not sure if Barry eats there but I would tell him to if he asked me.
