Following on the heels of a tropical cocktail post (irony intended), a more sobering note. Ten of the state's 11 most dangerous intersections are on the Big Island. Which is particularly frightening as more than any other major island the Big Island has a shortage of on-call specialist docs who can handle traumatic car crashes and accidents. The most viable option is a copter ride to Oahu to Queen's Medical Center, the only trauma center in the state -- and a sure way to lose valuble treatment time in transit. In other words, Hawaii is a virtual developing nation when it comes to critical care outside of Oahu.
