Hawaiirama Foodie Roundup

More edibles for the masses, courtesy of the roving food monkeys at Hawaiirama. Honolulu Weekly happily sails into the Holokai Grill, the new Tiki's Bar & Grill clone in the also new Waikiki Beachwalk. The word? Order mixed drinks. Lots of them. Honolulu Star-Bulletin says Buon Amici in Kaimuki fills the nabe Italian joint bill just fine. Two other Italian restaurant gurus in paradise with long resumes, Donato Loperfido and Philippe Padovani, announce they are joining forces to open a new restaurant called Elua (that's the number two in Hawaiian). The new joint will open in the recently closed L'Uraku (did it close? I never knew) space on Kapiolani Boulevard). Donato, a busy guy, is also opening a new Italian place, located in the ill-fated Restaurant Row death zone, to be called Past et Basta.

Local restaurateur Ross Okuhara has opened a new local food, family-style joint called "Yosh!", also in Restaurant Row. Not sure how he's gonna pay the rent with $10 entrees, but would love to see it fly. BrowniePoints blogs on the Chinatown Food Tour, a great way to eat lots of Chinese food cheaply and quickly in downtown Honolulu. Tasty Island photoblogs on the new Gulick's Delicatessen location on King Street in the former Makino Chaya spot. Gulick's is a classic Hawaii-style deli with loads of local foods and Japanese style offerings. Locals love it. Hawaii Island Journal (meaning, the Big Island) does Salvadoran -- perhaps a first in Hawaii. Pupusa that, baby! The bohos at Maui Time Weekly get wowed by the stars at Spago in the Four Seasons Wailea (even alternative journalists are apparently vulnerable!). Phew!
