This AP article published in the Vancouver Sun covers a trend I was totally unaware of, namely, pet owners schlepping their furry friends to Hawaii for a vacation. That is, not of the pets, although they clearly come along for the ride. This article claims that over the past three years, due to looser quarantine requirments, pet arrivals for vacations have jumped by 30%. Whoa.

Two of the more prominent vacationers porting pets were Cameron Diaz and Elizabeth Taylor, who both stayed at the Kahala Resort, which is obviously pet-friendly. Fetch that aloha shirt, Fido! Will the Kahala remain pet-friendly after the whole place is renovated in the next few years? It's one thing to let man's best friend loose when you know the carpets are coming out and quite another when...you know what I mean.
