So I've periodically blogged about the ongoing fare war between upstart interisland carrier go! and incumbents Aloha and Hawaiian. The war just got a it more bloodier this week as go! dropped the one-way price of an interisland ticket running during low traffic periods in the middle of the week to a paltry $9. To put this in perspective, a cab from the airport to Waikiki runs at least $20. This is the lowest interisland fares have been in real terms, ever. Hawaiian and Aloha, not wanting to lose market share, agreed to also drop their fares to that level. It must be killing them but travelers are benefiting. Initially a one-week thing, the fares have been extended through mid-December, a hefty chunk of time. This could change your travel equation as it makes quick hops to a neighbor islands relatively affordable. Check it out.
