The ones Cheryl writes about cost money ($29 for the quick hike and $79 for a longer adventure) and has entrances on private land. But you can also take a guided lava tube hike starting in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park that is a freebie, although it only happens once per week and it fills up very quickly. The one at Hawaii Volcanoes is a bit more strenuous, as well, lasting well over 2 hours and involving a bit of scrambling. Here's the details for the guiding outfit.
