according to reports, grown a bit tatty and the hotel a bit ragged in the 20 years since opening. Not that the prices had dropped. Whatever the case, Starwood announced today at $60 million renovation of the 252-room clifftop property on Kauai's North Shore. They are going to redo everything, from the rooms to the spas to the restaurants (which had been good but never quite lived up to the view).

Starwood execs did not present a timetable for the renovations but said the resort would stay open throughout the project. Really? How are you going to sell that one to finicky honeymooners and the monied folks who can afford this place? Note to self -- check for renovation specials. Starwood also raise the possibility that a celeb chef would open an outpost in one of the resorts restaurants, a welcome addition on the Garden Isle where dining options remain a bit limited.
