Hawaii Interisland Airfare Wars Draw More Blood

Both Aloha Air, which has gone in and out of bankruptcy, and upstarts go! announced in the past few days financial results. Both cited interisland travel in Hawaii as a reason for increased red ink. This bodes poorly for the bodacious interisland fares that have tumbled from the sky of late, due largely to the raucous entry in the market of go!. The upshot? I would buy those interisland tix ASAP because clearly the current fare level of $60 to $100 round trip is not sustainable. When only Aloha and Hawaiian were offering this service (there were a few other very small competitors), tix ran close to $200 round trip, nearly half the cost of a flight to the mainland. Hopefully, fares will settle somewhere in between these two levels or else, face, I'm taking the boat!
