I've long been a fan of Maui-based writer Paul Wood, whose quirky musings have graced a number of publications. Here's a really nice article he wrote about the remnant forests on Maui for the most recent edition of Spirit of Aloha, the in-flight magazine for Aloha Airlines. It's very personal and very real. I enjoyed it. The ancient endemic forests of Hawaii are indeed disappearing quickly as more and more alien species encroach. See them before they are gone forever -- at least in their pristine, natural state.
