Hawaii Waterfalls: Statewide Drought Impacting Many Cataracts
Where: Statewide || Grouped in: Statewide Nature || Tagged:
If you are hoping to do some waterfall hikes on an upcoming trip to Hawaii, or are just a local looking to get wet in the mountains, be forewarned. Drought conditions and a critical lack of rainfall statewide have turned off the taps at many popular waterfall spots, reducing usually robusts flows and completely halting others. Waterfalls like Manoa Falls, popular with tourists and car thieves, often experience significant declines in hourly flows. Maunawili Falls, on the other hand, on Oahu is still probably a good bet. Falls at the end of the Pipiwai Trail near Kipahulu on Maui is a bit reduced but still worth seeing. Hiilawe on the Big Island should be fine.
