Lava_Arch_2.JPGHundreds of small temblors set Kilauea Volcano all aquiver and scared the National Park Service enough to shutter Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to visitors. Rangers evacuated a handful of campers and turned away dozens of carloads of tourists. What will be interesting -- scientists are pondering this right now -- is whether the quakes will turn off Madam Pele's magical lava taps that have keep the hot orange rivers flowing and visible for 24 amazing years. The quakes could change the eruption site from Pu'u O'o Vent to someplace else on Kilauea's slopes. Or, its possible that these quakes could halt the lava flows as the Earth settles and the cracks that allowed the molten rock to see daylight close or pressure in magma chambers that fueled the eruptions diminishes. Stay tuned.
