In the May 2007 edition, senior editor Steve Millburg gives a quick taste of a hike I've long wanted to take, circling the rim of Waipio Valley, a lush, massive valley on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island. I've been in the valley and hiked to Hi'ilawe Falls, one of the most amazing accessible waterfalls in the islands if not the world. Millburg gives a good, quick update on food options and suggests a few places to stay (there is a lot of turnover in the B&B universe so current magazine articles are often good bets). I'd also recommend the Palms Cliff House for a place to hang up your hiking boots.
