ClubHawaii.net Launches: Another Hawaii Travel Site :)

Not quite sure what to make of ClubHawaii.com. The hook is four travel writers and 300 insiders suggest itineraries. ClubHawaii screens the info and assists paying customers -- that's right, they want you to pay money for their insights. Me, I think that paid sites were DOA in 2004, with a few exceptions. These guys are going to have to provide some serious value to justify anyone paying for what can be seen with even greater variety on Flickr or covered by the minions of TripAdvisor. The few basic sample itineraries I saw looked fairly generic and uninteresting. I will be tracking this as it develops.
Update (7/22/07): After further surfing on the site, I found tons of busted links, lots of info seemed inaccurate and other things that would give me pause. I am not sure they understood what they were getting into when they launched this. A huge travel content site is a HUGE undertaking -- precisely why I've chosen to keep this site relatively small and contained.

I signed up for a free trial today at ClubHawaii.com and thought the content was weak, repetitive and I found several inaccuracies in the 10 minutes I was surfing. Furthermore, the writing isn’t very good.
I give them 3 months.

They want 1,000 people to go through their screening process to write their content for free? And meanwhile turn around and charge subscribers to read it? (Note that like most scammy sites, they’ll switch to bill you automatically after six months… after you’ve forgotten you signed up in the first place.) I actually regretted giving them the pageviews as I browsed around in disbelief.
As I noted at HawaiiThreads.com, one of the contributing writers to the site also contributes to the Star-Bulletin. I expect some chips were cashed in.
