With occupancy rates continuing to fall in Hawaii and the summer travel season sleepier than normal, lots of deals to be had out there. The Sheraton Royal Hawaiian is offering a pretty good one -- $289 for an ocean view room at the fabled Pink Palace. This is one of the only hotels in Waikiki that provide a sense of remove from the bustle of the busy resort area. Rooms are in need of renovations (which are coming shortly and in a massive way) but the property itself is lovely, with its echoing arched hallways, quiet coconut grove, and diffuse light. Staying here you also get a primo perk -- a swathe of beach for hotel chairs at ground zero. The Mai Tai Bar on property has long been a fave watering hole for visitors and locals alike. The on-property spa is also excellent, one of the best in Waikiki (although make sure you get your booking ironed out as they seem to have trouble with confirmations). Caveats? Food is not great, Pool is small. Service can be indifferent (but not rude -- just not crisp). All told, this is a good deal during summer travel season for a room that normally runs much higher.
