Hawaii Cupcakes: Hokulani Bakery, All Butter, No Bad

cupcakes.jpgYes, the upscale cupcake madness has landed in Hawaii, too. Fortunately, I should say. My pal Tushar Dubey is one of the purveyors of the sweet, kine stuff. Two years ago he and his lovely wife Anna opened Hokulani Bake Shop as the first haute cupcakery in Hawaii (there is another good one in Aina Haina on Oahu that I'll cover shortly). Tushar uses no trans-fats, no corn syrup and all natural ingredients (meaning butter, sugar, etc). His cakes are delish and, truth be told, the frosting often gets stripped long before the floury part gets whacked. He makes all flavors including chocolates, Red velvet, and the like. His cookies rock, too -- nice crunch, lotta butter, mo betta'. We usually end up doubling our order when we get down there. For kids birthdays on Oahu, Hokulani has become a total life saver (and much better than most of what the hotels or other bakeries produce). How do I know he's good? All the pharmaceutical reps buy his cookies to give to doctors.
