Continuing on the Hawaii high-end hot dog meme, my friend Lesa Griffith at the Honolulu Advertiser comes out with a review of Hank's Haute Dogs (which I blogged about earlier) but adds a mouth-watering review of a second gourmet dog house -- Puka Dog. I had never heard of these cats but man, it sounds like they have the whole dog going on. They use some new-fangled custom machine to roast their sausage-style dogs to a lovely crisp, sez Lesa. They also have all sorts of nifty condiments, all house made. Relishes come in mango, pineapple and papaya flavors and relish can be guava or lilikoi (passion fruit). The roasting machine impales hot dogs on spikes "like some torture machine" as Lesa says. I am mos def heading down there for a sample of this newish delicacy. They also have a location on Kauai. Hot diggity, redux.
