Hawaii Hotels: Kahala Resort Richard Dreyfus Ripoff

As if the Kahala Resort hadn't had enough bad press lately. Apparently, famed stage and screen has-been actor walked on a $3,000 room charges tab from the Kahala after stealing the show in a local charity theater performance in Honolulu, according to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The room charges were paid out of proceeds from the charity benefit. The Kahala has long been a fave of presidents and potentates wishing to avoid the Waikiki crush. I suspect Mr. Dreyfus will not get a nice room upgrade next time he stays at the hotel. Or perhaps his crash-and-dash move was a protest vote against declining service and extensive ongoing renovations? I've blogged on this slide before and the hoi polloi at TripAdvisor have definitely hammed the hotel of late. I have one more sad tale to tell. Tea at the Kahala used to be a total joy, served in the comfy lobby lanai with bodacious baked pastries. Scratch the pastries. On a recent visit, the hotel served up lame cookies alongside the still stellar scones. The finger sandwich offering was, likewise, reduced. Bring back the pastries, Kahala! Especially the chocolate ones.
