Hawaii Hotel Reviews: Sheraton Waikiki, Pleasant Surprise

We had an oceanfront room and it really was just gorgeous and wit that view you really can't get much closer to the ocean. They have a few things they need to work on still. For example -there are not that many restaurants to eat at on the property. They're adding a couple but they haven't been finished yet. When we got there we were starving and the buffet which is the main restaurant downstairs didn't open until 5:30. I thought the buffet was excellent as far as buffets go. I know the hotel is opening a new restaurant bar, RumFire, which has a well-known chef from Hoku's at the Kahala Resort. That might be the place to go in the hotel (stay tuned ). The person who oversaw the redesign of these hotel rooms really needs to be commended. Caveat -- they are pretty tight rooms, narrow in many cases. But there is great utilization of space here with flat panel TVs, nice shelving options, and a nice modern color scheme that is muted but still somewhat beachy (perhaps a little bland but a vast improvement over the screamingly ugly floral prints that swallowed the whole room). Having read things about problems with lower floors, I was particularly worried but actually staying on the fourth floor was pretty good because the balconies are twice the size of the normal ones. You also get to hear the music from the pool downstairs which goes on till about 10:30 at night (note: if you like to sleep with lanai doors open, ask for a higher floor). Yaling (my wife) did a nice little video showing the room which you can see on our podcasts page http://www.hawaii-aloha.com/podcast
I would definitely recommend this property to all types of travelers staying in Waikiki. It’s worth the little extra money for an oceanfront property with an oceanfront rooms. When they have promotions on their oceanfront rooms they are really a steal.
I give the Sheraton Waikiki 4 Shakas! A hui hou from Bruce at Hawaii-Aloha.com!

The Sheraton is one of my first recommendations for people looking for a great service beach front property in Waikiki that are not afraid to pull out the American Express! Its well worth it! The hotel has a great nightclub that features local DJ and local bands that play music to dance all night to. The kids can actually become a part of the hotel’s kids Explorer program where they have a program set up for kids to have their own fun while parents are sunbathing at the pool or beach. Wonderful place to stay if you are honeymooning or planning a family vacation! If you are Honeymooning, don’t forget to tell your travel agent to request a KING BED!
