Cassis Closed Last Saturday: Big Bummer

Holy cow, that was fast. Cassis, the (slightly) more casual restaurant in Downtown Honolulu owned and masterminded by Chef Mavro (the James Beard Award Winner) has shuttered after less than a year. And I didn't even get to eat there! The restaurant will be sorely missed by locals. Apparently, not enough visitors made it down there. Mavro certainly had a tough road to hoe from the start. The lunch crowd on Bishop Street is not about big spending. The restaurant itself is cavernous and probably expensive, rent wise. I hope he regroups and opens another joint, albeit one closer to his home base on King Street which remains open and running. Maybe something in Kaimuki, where there are now three restaurant spaces open? Chef, can't wait to see what's next.

Hi Alex,

It was really nice meeting you the other night at “Town”.

Wow, we were just discussing this restaurant the other night. That’s too bad.

Do you have an email address. This is the first time I have done the “blog” thing.

Keep in touch.

Aloha, Victoria
