(Sorry -- loaded this post up on Saturday to MT but only now getting it up and live. Was a bit too Microsoft Mobile for my own good. Wink, wink. And am only now catching up.) So a lot of Saturday's we come here. Why? Three -- no, make that four reasons. Mangoes, papayas, tomatoes and cherimoyas. Those rumors you've heard about mangoes falling out of trees in Hawaii are not true. They grow in great numbers but poaching someone's mangoes is sorta like pilfering lobster's from a pot in Maine. You might get shot or at the very least a sound beating. I can understand why, too. The mangoes in Hawaii are probably the best in the world anywhere outside of India. Bar none. Look for White Pirie versions, like spicy cubes of butter. Papayas, too, are a different critter in Hawaii. The flesh is so juicy, so brightly colored, so pliant -- I easily plow through a whole one in a single seating. Surprisingly, Hawaii has some of the best tomatoes in the country, as well. They grow year round. Look for North Shore Big Wave tomatoes at this market. Lastly, cherimoyas. Rich like custard, juicy like berries, sweet with a tiny hint of tangy sour, super rico suave. So that's the lineup for KCC Farmers Market and all of those fruits should be / will be in season shortly. The market, at the foot of Diamond Head (near Waikiki) on the campus of a local community college, is probably the best play to buy fresh fruit on Oahu. Just try not to drool on your mobile device, sez Bill and Steve Balmer. Sticky fingers is a good thing but not when it comes to computing. A hui hou! (This post, again, was sponsored by Microsoft. They didn't ask me to do anything special in this post to promo them but I really appreciate their support.)
