Jimmy Buffett Opens Restaurant in Waikiki: Gone Corporate, Mate?

Sellout. That's all I got to say about Jimmy Buffett's announced plans to open a $15 million restaurant in the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel in Waikiki. The hotel is fine. Waikiki is actually great - I love it and spend plenty of time there surfing, eating, drinking. But Jimmy, a true Parrothead retreat would not be located in one of the densest patches of pavement in the United States. Dude, if you are gonna do a Hawaii resto thing, put it someplace more Buffettesque. My selections would be, not in order
1) Lahaina -- touristy, sense of history, old whaling town, plenty of fishing and sailing still going on, and you can ride your bike home if you drank to much. Or spend the night under the giant banyan tree without getting hassled.
2) Hanalei -- Most beautiful place on Earth, perhaps. Plenty of hippies still there. No big buildings. Sailboats bobbing in the bay. Lots of people living there because they love the ocean.
3) Kailua-Kona -- Somewhat seedy, rundown ocean town. It feels like a Buffett song, frankly. Totally carefree vibe. No polish at all. Solid Buffett turf.
Jimmy, gimme a call if you need some help scouting locations. Please don't go corporate on us.

Darn it. I should have written that. Can you picture him having his marina concerts dockside there? It would have been AMAZING.

brah—to say he’s “a sellout” by putting a “resto” in Waikiki and then suggest he plop one in Lahaina is retarded. there are probably more touristy t-shirt and trinket shops in lahaina than waikiki.
