Two of my good foodie friends, Lesa Griffith (who blogs here for the Honolulu Academy of Arts) and Dave Choo, have recommended Taormina as solid. Dave said it was good and I trust his judgement. Lesa used to work as a food editor at TimeOut New York and thus has had exposure to the country's best Italian (Molto Mario). In this review during her past tenure at the Honolulu advertiser, she sing's the praises of this small restaurant and its simple, Sicilian menu put out by a ponytailed Japanese chef who most recently cooked at Spago Tokyo in the fishbowl that is a Wolfgang Puck restaurant. The bucatini and sardines sounds out of this world, sez Lesa. This may be the best Italian food in Honolulu, a town notably short on really good Italian eateries -- must eat soon!
