From Hawaii Tourism Authority: "HAWAII EXPECTED TO HAVE AMPLE LIFT DESPITE AIRLINE SHUTDOWNS"

What they don't mention in the release, however, is price. It's not what you think you should pay to fly to Hawaii. It's what the market will bear. Methinks that bankruptcies of carriers can mean one of two things. Either the carriers were not as well run as they needed to be. Or the price for flights was too low. Granted, the thing that killed Aloha was interisland. But ATA had no interisland flights and Hawaii was one of its primary businesses. Hawaii flights are notoriously difficult to make money on because so many are included in packages and major carriers view Hawaii flights as loss-leaders for their frequent flier programs (people choose awards to Hawaii with great regularity). My prediction? Like everything else about Hawaii, the cost of getting to the islands is going up soon.
