Hawaii Air Travel Hell: ATA Shuts Down, Too -- Good Luck!

I'd hate to be a travel agent with a large Hawaii client list today. As if the Aloha Airlines shutdown didn't cause enough chaos, the ATA closure comes right on its heels -- and was equally abrupt. Heck, the airline only told the flight crews as of yesterday right before the last flight. Refunds look unlikely. Best is to go to your credit card company and demand a chargeback. That's also a serious reduction in lift and certain big cities, such as Phoenix, will likely see big price increases on existing non-stop routes to Hawaii.

I just heard about this on the radio on the way in to work. The ATA closure hits me a bit harder than Aloha. I’ve booked one-way tickets on ATA for my kids flying back from the mainland several times. Between the airline closures and fuel prices, it’s going to be an expensive time to fly this summer.

Indeed, particularly if you were going to an ATA hub city such as Phoenix or San Diego (I think they flew there). All told, life to and from Hawaii is going down roughly 10%, which is huge.

In November of 2006, we flew ATA from LAX to HNL, and then Aloha to Kauai - and got the best prices too. Now, I imagine the prices will go up, without that competion!
