Here's to hoping that the recent spike in ticket prices to and from Hawaii brought about after two of the major carriers, Aloha and ATA, crashed and burned, is a temporary phenom. SmarterTravel peers into its crystal ball and finds experts that see Hawaii fares going up by $100 to $200 per route into the future, mainly because ATA was the low-price carrier and other carriers will happily jack their fares. The Honolulu Advertiser, however, paints a grimmer picture with travel agents in California that are booking Hawaii tickets seeing a price spike closer to $500 for a round-trip passage to the islands. That might have something to do with the yawning 14% plunge in the number of tourists that landed in Hawaii in March 2008 as compared to the same period in 2007. Well, at least we have Hawaii native Jack Johnson doing his usual Kokua Fest! If you got tix, you're a lucky bugger!
