I've often blogged about violence in Hawaii and my suspicions that a lot of violent or threatening acts are swept under the rug here. So it's good to see the authorities finally recognizing the true nature of the beast. This hate crime prosecution deals with two incidents on the same night in Kona where five local Hawaii men allegedly assaulted without provocation a group of campers. From the article:

The campers said in published reports that the attacks were unprovoked, that there were children and at least one pregnant woman at the campsites that were attacked, and that the attackers allegedly ordered the campers to leave the beach and the island.

Whoa! And who said Hawaii is totally safe?
