Rental Cars on Superferry -- Total Rip Off?

So I jumped the gun on proclaiming joy at word that you can put rental cars on the Superferry. Turns out, according to the Unofficial Superferry Blog, the rental car companies have imposed a one-way drop-off fee of $400. Which is indescribably stupid. If they really wanted to make money off one-way drop offs, charge $50 or something. But I guess they don't. Regardless, my friend blogger Ian Lind points out that, considering the poor track record of the Superferry for mechanical and weather problems, a visitor could easily get stuck with a nasty bill if the boat don't float on any given day. My initial reporting was weak, but then again, so was that of the MSM. I'm just a blog but I'll try to do you right. So, no, don't book passage with a rental car in mind. I'd advise against it at this point.

Eh no shame. At least you corrected yourself. Nary a peep from the MSM yet. And I’m not holding my breath waiting for that.
