Hawaii Hotels: Bedbugs at the Halekulani? A New Upgrade Strategy
Where: Oahu || Grouped in: Oahu Hotels || Tagged:
The only thing worse than getting bitten by bedbugs in a hotel room is getting bitten by bedbugs in a really, really expensive hotel room. Try adding that this room is in Hawaii (possibly for your honeymoon) and at one of the nicest hotels on Earth and, well, major bummer, dude. This article is the first I've seen to mention a small (and quickly contained bedbug outbreak in the uber-posh Halekulani in Waikiki). Rooms start at roughly $400 per night and sail skyward from there. This exclusive hotel (where, caveat emptor, I honeymooned and still stay whenever I can scrape up the dought) suffered a single bedbug incident in April of 2008, according to Pacific Business News. The hotel PR folks had the class to admit it had happened and say they handled it with no complaints from the guest. Which leads me to believe the guest got a pretty royal treatment. So perhaps a new travel strategy has emerged for the semi-masochistic. Check into a posh Hawaii hotel and make sure to infect the bed with bedbugs. Tongue removed from cheek, there have not been a lot of bedbug reports in Hawaii hotels. But if you've been bitten, tell us about it and we'll post your plagues, verily.

When I stayed at the Honolulu HI Hotel, there were bed bugs. The Honolulu HI Hotel is the only one I’ve stayed at on Oahu that I’ve ever had any complaints about. Weird, I never heard of any reports from the place I stayed at..
