So some people know that Maui onions rival Vidalias from Georgia fot the crown of sweetest on Earth. So sweet you can eat them raw and kiss your sweetheart. Witness the Maui Onion Festival raw onion contest, pictured here. This is part of a fun event held yearly in Kaanapali on the sunny West Side of Maui. Other parts of the fest include top chefs cooking (Russel Siu, James MacDonald, D.K. Kodama) and a beer lawn with Kona Brewing (quaff the hula hefeweizen) at Leilani's. All told, a fun in the sun good time with much Hawaii aloha. Just steer clear of contestants as perhaps an ill-timed breath might prove more pungent than advertised.
