Sure, you've got shave ice all over the islands. But Hawaii, despite its increasingly cosmopolitan nature, hasn't yet caught up with the gelato mania sweeping the Mainland. Shops purveying these lighter versions of ice cream in the true Italian style have yet to run rampant over the Islands. But Paia, of course, is a windsurfing hotbed and stealth cosmopolitan township of the highest order. Which is why Ono Gelato would land there, equipped with three ambitious owners including a third-generation third generation gelataio from Torino, Italy.
