Hawaii Gardens: Lyon Arboretum Revival
Where: Oahu || Grouped in: Oahu Kids, Oahu Nature || Tagged:
Nice article in Hana Hou magazine about the revival of Lyon Arboretum, a legendary but until recently ramshackle botanical garden on Oahu near downtown Honolulu and run by the University of Hawaii (caveat emptor -- I was married here at inspiration point seven years ago). The garden is now more handicapped accessible and many of the broken-down paths have been fixed up. Docent-led tours are among the best in the islands in terms of biological data dump impact. The Arboretum itself is breathtaking, set on a verdant hillside in the far reaches of a massive mountain-ringed valley. Go visit.
