Kauai Foodie Tragedy: Blossoming Lotus to Close, Hawaii's Veggies Are Bummed

I'd only heard rave reviews of the Blossoming Lotus on Kauai. This was a Thai-themed vegetarian restaurant my foodie friends swooned for. One of them, a local cupcake magnate, actually ate ever dinner there for a week when he was on Kauai. Seriously. So now they are closing -- and I never even got to eat there. I hope this does not foretell more problems with Hawaii's always struggling but recently growing (fingers crossed) indie restaurant scene. True, a Kapa'a location on Kauai is not exactly good for tourist traffic but then again, not many tourists to be found these days. Memo to owners of Blossoming Lotus -- open on Oahu, and you'll be warmly embraced.

Oh man that is sad. I had a garbanzo curry soup once there that I have been trying to recreate in my kitchen for years. I second your call for them to open up shop on Oahu. I know I would be a loyal customer!

Heard about the restaurant early last year and I was looking forward to visiting Kauai just to eat there. Won’t get that chance now. I would definitely be another loyal customer if they came to Oahu.

The Blossoming Lotus will be missed. We ate there many times on our visits to Kaui. They owned a coffee shop across the street I wonder if it closed too? Anyway, for those that want a piece of the Lotus order their cookbook. I use it all the time.

I just called my friend on Kauai to make plans for my birthday, as I wanted to get a cake from the Blossoming Lotus, and she gave me the bad news. I am so upset as this is the best restaurant on the Island especially for those like me who are vegan. I will really miss them- now where can I get a cake?
