Hawaii Attractions: Cirque Hawaii Closes -- Lost Their Lease

Cirque Hawaii shuttered (a fun but cut rate version of the Cirque du Soleil juggernaut) according to @aquahotels, the twitter account for Aqua Hotels. . Not clear where that leaves ticket holders. They are hoping to reopen in February somewhere. Location undisclosed. I imagine there will be lots of space in Waikiki at that time since all the tourists will be gone.

It is really hard to hear more negative information about the tourism industry. I hope the Cirque finds a new location. I do feel like this show, and others in Hawaii are too cut-rate. I have heard tourist talk about how they don’t compare to mainland shows, or come even close to Vegas productions. Hawaii has been too complacent for too long. We assume that tourist will just keep coming, but I fear that people are finding alternatives in these hard economic times and not splurging on their Dream Hawaiian vacation. I rent vacation rentals and definitely have seen a huge drop off in visitors and interest. Of course much of this has to do with the economy and is happening everywhere, but I do think that Hawaii needs to up the ante in what we offer our guests.
