Hawaii Hotels; Royal Hawaiian Opens after Renovations to Mixed Reviews

The grand dame of Waikiki hotels, the iconic Royal Hawaiian, reopened after extensive renovations roughly two weeks ago. Upgrades included renovations of the old rooms and decor, revamped restaurants and dining menus, and a new super pool for kids and families. I wanted to see what people thought -- I believe I was invited to one of the parties but spaced on the invite. Thus far, the buzz on the new and improved Pink Palace is mixed.

The OC Register pummels the Pink Palace for going to far to modernize. The LA Times gives it a moderate thumbs up. I will be heading down to give an extensive report after shakedown sickness comes off the property later in April.

I stayed at the Royal Hawaiian some years ago, maybe the early ’90s. I am anxious and nervous to see what they have done to it. I am planning a trip to Oahu this summmer and was planning on staying at the Royal Hawaiian. One of the things that I loved the most about it when I was there before, was that it felt like a throwback to a better time. I hope they haven’t killed that aura by trying to hard to modernizing it. I have stayed at different at many different Hotels Hawaii on oceanfront in the past, but somehow the Royal Hawaiian has always been my all time favorite. The rooms were cozy, I hope that they didn’t take away the coziness feel to the place with the new renovations.

We stayed at this Hawaii Hotel for our honeymoon 10 years ago, and we had very good memories there. It was quite romantic.

I have enjoyed staying at this hotel and glad to know that the hotel has been renovated. I’m from Vegas, there are some amazing Las Vegas Casino Hotels but there are some that definitely need a makeover.
