Ka Hula Piko: Hula Dancing on Molokai
This is hula festival is far less crowded than many of the larger fests. That’s in part due to its location on Moloka’i but the caliber of this event is stellar and worth a dedicated visit for the hula fanatics. Moloka’i Ka Hula Piko began in 1991 and it takes placeĀ each year on the third weekend in May. The focus of this festival is more on the kahiko (traditional or ancient) hula style and includes healthy doses of storytelling. Much of the dancing and stories tell the history and legends of Moloka’i with happy, healthy doses of keiki hula dancing, too! The festival takes place at Papohaku Beach Park near Kaluakoi on the western side of Molokai. This is on of the longest white sand beaches in Hawaii.
