Hawaii Eats: In Waikiki, The Pink Palace Goes 220 Miles for Brunch

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is, of course, one of the world’s classic hotel icons. The regal Pink Palace rides above the gentle breaking waves of Waikiki and manages to maintain an eminently serene carriage amidst the hubhub of this dense urban resort. And somehow, the storied coconut grove fronting the hotel on the mountain side has endured. So how about some  fresh mangoes  fresh mangoes and Kula strawberries draped over tangy Maui Surfing Goat Dairy goat cheese yogurt for brunch in the grove? Or a luscious piece of deep red ahi topped with a dash of sesame oil? You got it.  In April 2011, the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation held a brunch fundraiser in the grove. It’s since gone weekly, with Chef Hans Stierli at the toque selecting primarily from foods grown, raised or caught within the 220 mile span of the island chain. The event now goes off on the third Sunday of each month and costs $48. As local as you wanna be on the shores of Waikiki.
