Hawaii Hotels: Amateur Video of Hyatt Regency Maui

Tour of the Presidential Suite at the Hyatt Regency Maui with a travel agent. Gives you a sense of the hotel and higher end suites. Visually gives you a good idea of what the hotel is all about. Wish she showed the beach and the pool but I can tell you they are pretty cool. My own take on the Hyatt - it's boxy but has a nice atrium, is on a killer beach, and has one of the best / only swim-up waterfall bars in the Hawaii. It's in Kaanapali which is good and bad -- lots of places to stay, but lots of people, too. Definitely get a car to avoid being trapped there. (Note: turn down the volume on this to avoid the sales patter).

Big Island Restaurants: Fujimama's Goes to the Theater

Fujimama's, the spunky nouveau Japanese restaurant chain with a location in upcountry Waimea on the Big Island, is doing some new menu things including a $22 prix fix pre-theater dinner for folks going to the nearby Kahilu Theater. That mellow sum buys diners a quick-and-tasty three course Steak & Caesar Menu or a Traditional Japanese Assorted Bento Box. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Harvest Days in Heavenly Hana: Hawaii Restaurants and Food
Where: Maui || Grouped in: Maui Food || Tagged:
The Hotel Hana Maui has a hot new chef who formerly worked as a high-ranking chef for super chef Daniel Boulud. Robert McCormick graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and has a bunch of other impressive restaurant names under his belt. McCormick is tapping into the locavore Zeitgeist and is sourcing the majority of his fruits, vegetables, meats, and tubers from the islands (starches like rice and pasta are only imported). Seafood comes fresh from small fishermen who live in or around Hana. Beef comes from the Hana Ranch, which resides on the slopes of Haleakala above the hotel. Tropical fruits come from one of my favorites, Ono Farms (which has a great tour, as well). The Hana Harvest Moon event runs three days and looks pretty awesome - who would have ever thought to combine prosecco and poi for a surfside delight. Prices per event run from $55 to $180, not including rooms.

Hawaii Vacation Rentals: A Hobbit House - Really?
Where: The Big Island || Grouped in: The Big Island Hotels || Tagged:
This is a nice little show about an eco-friendly Hobbit House vacation rental in Hawaii on the Big Island. It's a wacky place pretty much in the middle of nowhere with curvy windows, forest themes, and other touches to make Tolkien-lovers swoon. Located on the Southern part of the Big Island, this place fits right in with the wonderful, wacky vibe of the Puna area. For a honeymoon, not sure I could do this one but it does look fun.

Hawaii Waterfalls: Super Cool Video

I have no idea how they shot this (is it digital? I can't tell). But it gives a wonderful flavor for what you might get in backcountry waterfalls in Hawaii. These guys give a very nice guide to Hawaii waterfalls. Most of the better ones are hard to reach and can be treacherous. The "Hawaii Exposed" guidebook series lists details on many but those details can be dated and many of the waterfalls are actually on private property. Enjoy!
