Hawaii Corals: Love Is In the Air
Spawn. Nope, not the horror flick kine. Rather, coral spawning, as in, spewing out milky eggs on certain spring and sumemr evenings just after the full moon under the dark skies and the bright moon in the Pacific. Once a year the corals of Hawaii do their thing and its Mother Nature at her most beautiful and mysterious. Hawaii is also the only place in the world where you can see coral spawning in daylight hours, spewing faint milky streams upwards gracefully through the water. The islands are home to a diverse array of corals, from rice to cauliflower to brain coral. They aren’t the same brilliantly colored reefs as found in Australia or other parts of the Southern Hemisphere but they hold their own quite nicely and play home to a hugely wide array of sea life that only can be found in Hawaii. Fortunately, viewing options for coral spawning are varied. Kids might like the coral spawn coverage from streaming cams and views of coral spawning in the tide pools at the Maui Ocean Center. Couples might want to get in the mood watching coral spawning from the back of a sailboat off the Waianae Coast of Oahu. Whatever the case, be fruitful and multiply.
